If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and prescribed a CPAP machine, there are alternatives available. These alternatives are less hassle, with a higher compliance rate resulting in just as effective, if not more effective, therapy. Studies show after two years of wearing a CPAP, less than 50% of the patients are still compliant with them. CPAP’s are bulky to travel with, noisy, and just plain uncomfortable to sleep in. An alternative device to a CPAP may be a solution for you. Choosing not to wear your CPAP can be a life or death decision. Finding an alternative device, that is comfortable, quiet, and easily portable, will allow you to continue your lifesaving sleep apnea treatment.
Warning Signs of Sleep Apnea
The warning signs of sleep apnea can be subtle or largely noticeable. This can make sleep apnea difficult to detect, especially because some of these warning signs happen to people without sleep apnea. It’s always best to make an appointment with a specialist if you have one or more of these warning signs. Sleep apnea can go undetected for a long time, and will eventually take a toll on your physical and mental well-being.
Other Warning Signs
Sleep apnea takes a toll on your body and your health, causing the following warning signs:
Waking More Than Once To Use The Bathroom
The healthy sleeper will only wake up once during the night to use the bathroom. If you are waking up more often, this is a sign of sleep apnea.
Forgetfulness is often assumed to be part of the process of getting older, but it can be related to what’s happening while you sleep. If you are foggy or forgetful in the morning, you could have sleep apnea.
If you need a pill to fall asleep or need coffee in the morning to wake up, this indicates you are not sleeping well. A sleeping pill does not induce natural sleep. Sleeping pills sedate you. Treating your sleep apnea can result in a more restful sleep and reduce the need for pills.

Related Health Conditions
If you have any of these health conditions, sleep apnea may be a contributing factor:
High Blood Pressure
If you are taking medication to control your high blood pressure, it may stem from an issue with how you are sleeping. Just over one third of the patients who have hypertension also have poor breathing during sleep. A sleep study can determine if you have sleep apnea.
Nearly 50% of adult onset diabetic patients have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea alters the hormones in your brain responsible for sensing a feeling of hunger or fullness. This alteration in hormone levels can result in cravings for sugary snacks.
How well you sleep has been tied to effective weight loss. If you have had recent weight gain, and despite a good diet and exercise routine you are unable to lose the weight, you should have a sleep study done to see if that may part of your problem.
Health Risks of Sleep Apnea
Besides the inconvenient warning signs of sleep apnea, there are extreme health risks if the disorder goes untreated.
This is why we take our work seriously at Sleeping Giant Sleep Solutions. We know our sleep therapy devices can be the difference between life and death for our patients.
Alternatives to CPAP Treatment
The usual treatment for Sleep Apnea is a CPAP machine that is used at night while sleeping. CPAPs can be cumbersome, uncomfortable, and noisy. If sleeping with a partner, CPAP machines often keep your partner awake at night causing them to lose sleep as well. CPAP’s are bulky and difficult to take on vacation. Studies show after two years of wearing a CPAP, less than 50% of the patients are still compliant with them.
