Sleep physicians tell us Adults need 7-9 hours of good sleep each night to live a healthy life. Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep each night and adolescents 9-11 hours. We can see the importance of sleep in newborns (who sleep up to 17 hours/day). Our mothers taught us “rest” is the best medicine. There is no arguing that sleep is important to living a healthy lifestyle. Sleeping longer hours on the weekend to make up for lost sleep during the week, or needing an afternoon nap means you do not have a healthy sleep cycle.
